shot
of this monument. Our trip began after the Salinas
south toll, we decided to turn left a head to highway 53 and then
intersect with road # 3. Passing thru Guayama,
Patillas
and Arroyo
and finally the town of Maunabo that was founded in 1799. The Punta
Tuna's Lighthouse was built by the Spaniards in 1892.
After
''mingling'' with local fishermen, we were told how much they do
cherish this lighthouse. ''We depend on it, we leave late at
night, sometimes up to 11 miles in to the sea on
our small ''yolas''. It is our eye in the night, we return with our
''fruits'' in the morning and because of the lighthouse, we bring
food to our tables. We love it very much, we are really proud of it''.
Added young fisherman Felix Guzman before leaving. This is
another reason to do local tourism, and as we always tell our
visitors, Puerto Rico is not just San Juan, El Morro and El Yunque. Puerto
Rico is waiting for you!
And
before closing this post, we want to openly thank young Felix for
taking us in his ''yola'' and make possible the shot above. We have
resized the picture in wallpaper size for our visitors to enjoy. If

Note
that this is a very panoramic route (road #3) and filled with photo
opportunities, not to mention lots of places to eat and guesthouses.
Since the main reason for this trip was to shoot the lighthouse, we
barely stopped for other photos. A huge gray cloud was on its way to
our rendezvous point.
