Photos and snap pictures ofOld San Juan, Puerto Rico

The city of San Juan is also known as ''La Ciudad Amurallada'' (the walled city), it was founded in 1521. This city takes its name from the city's patron saint, St. Johh. In 1508 Juan Ponce de León founded the original settlement, Caparra, today is known as Pueblo Viejo, behind the almost land-locked harbor A year later, the settlement was abandoned and moved to the site of what is now called Old San Juan. San Juan is one of the largest and best natural harbors in the Caribbean. San Juan is the second oldest city in the Americas.

The eye of the beholder:
The staff:
We came accross an article on the web ''denoucing'' the ''deplorable'' conditions of the Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis cemetary in the Old San Juan. The article even shows

images from the writter that claims its condition as ''deprolable''. Well, we do NOT feel the same. After revising archived photos since the year 2000 until some taken yesterday Sept. 22nd 2004. We at POPR.com as avid practioners of inside tourism can give an A+ to this historical place. The employees were very nice and corteous opposed as the article's statement of ''indifferent''.

If we are on vacation no matter where, we'll bring back photos from our 5 star hotel and others. Should we go behind the scenes and take photos on the back of the hotel by the dumpsters? We'd like to encourage local and foreign tourists to come to this place as it is in top condition to be visited. The photos shown by this person in the article are common issues in a cemetary. Next time enjoy your visits because the last place you'll ask for a behind-the-scenes ''peek'' is at a cemetary.

The construction of this cemetery began in 1863 by Ignacio Mascaro near el Morro. It is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m and it is the resting place from José Celso Barbosa to composer Pedro Flores among others.
